Amazon Singapore processes and fulfils thousands of customer orders a day, and it’s no mean feat. We know that nothing brings more joy to our customers than receiving the package that they’ve been earnestly waiting for since they clicked on “Check Out”. That is why our team of associates are the true heroes of Amazon who keep our operations running and continue delivering smiles. These are five reasons we’ve heard from associates on why they love working at Amazon Operations:
Culture of health and safety
Since day 1, the health and safety of our team has been a top priority for us, and we constantly strive to improve our practices and standards every day. It’s ingrained in every aspect of our work and culture. From helping our team understand how to reduce muscle fatigue to practising mindfulness, there are a host of programs and technology solutions that Amazon provides to all associates. Moreover, since the onset of COVID-19, we’ve gone beyond the mandatory safety guidelines and implemented more than 150 significant process changes globally to keep our teams safe.
Culture of fun and inclusivity
We are only as good as our people. A welcoming and inclusive culture is integral for people to do their best and at Amazon, this is our guiding principle. Across Singapore Operations, we take steps to ensure employees have a sense of belonging, value, and opportunity. From Lunar New Year to National Day, all festivals or events are celebrated with equal enthusiasm.
Culture of growth and opportunities
In the past year, upskilling has been a concept many Singaporeans have become acquainted with. At Amazon, we believe that opportunities to learn and explore new functions within the company is central to how our teams grow. Globally, we are investing US$700 million to provide free skills training to employees. Associates in our fulfillment centers have the opportunity to learn the end-to-end flow of how we translate a customer click to a customer smile through our wide selection and fast delivery. We continue to prioritise the growth of our talent pool and be a catalyst in helping them unleash their full potential. From Kathie Koh to Jill Ong, we have several stories of associates who are now Team Leads, Area Managers and more.
Culture of pioneering innovation
While the saying may go, “if it ain't broke, don't fix it”, we think otherwise. Instilling a culture of innovation within our team is what Amazon is all about – we want to come together, innovate, and make the extraordinary happen. For instance, we implemented an artificial intelligence-enabled tool called “Distance Assistant” in multiple areas of our Singapore fulfillment centers to ensure people are maintaining a safe distance from one another. On the packaging front, we use scanners that help us identify the right package size for a product, helping us minimise wastage thereby enabling every associate to do their bit for the environment. Through such innovations, we are constantly pushing the boundaries to create a work environment that is fulfilling for all our associates. Amazon’s air conditioned fulfillment center is a great place to work, learn and grow.
Culture of community-centricity
Giving back to the communities we work in is at the core of Amazon. We believe in championing and supporting local businesses that are making a positive impact on the community. At the end of the day, we want the actions of our employees, partners and customers to deliver smiles to the Singaporean community. Leveraging our robust Amazon Flex delivery network last year, we facilitated the delivery of nearly 10,000 food packages for The Food Bank Singapore to help provide thousands of meals and grocery staples to homebound Singaporeans in need. We want to inspire more entrepreneurs like our sellers and customers to be a driving force for good and every associate has a role to play in our journey.
Since joining, I’ve progressed from being a part-time Associate to a full-time Team Lead at Amazon’s Fulfillment Center. Even though I didn’t have much knowledge of the logistics industry, my managers were very patient and supportive in helping me learn and hone new skills, encouraging me to excel at my job.
